From the Kitchen

So along with all the sugar busting (that is or isn't happening)around here, We've also been on a homemade kick. I suppose that's to be expected, this being the homemade life and all, but honestly I go in and out of spurts where energy and lack of ingredients drive me to faster more processed solutions... particularly in the summer. The weather is warm (well, most years anyway), my husband is home the beach or park is calling and the laziness... oh yes, let's not forget the laziness.

But as soon as the temperatures of September dropped and the blustery days started rolling in, I found myself LOVING being in my kitchen again and turning to a fabulous book I picked up from the library "The Readers Digest Homemade: How to Make Hundreds of Everyday Products You Would Otherwise Buy". Right up my alley, no? I've posted a link to it on Amazon.com .

Here are some photos of the fabulous Zucchini Cheese loaf and home made chocolate cake mix with butter cream icing I made a few weeks back along with homemade minestrone that used up the randoms from my pantry and fridge. Being frugal never tasted so good!

Homemade Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal too... mmmmm.

Everyone else has been getting more into the kitchen too. Kev and Jackson making pancakes on Saturday morning.
I've also cranked out 4 loaves of bread, two batches of buns from my grandma's recipe (soooo delicious!)and two disks of pie crust (first attempt so wish me luck!)
Today we're really getting into the fall spirit and I'm whipping up my yearly pumpkin chocolate chip muffins and turning some gifted rhubarb into pie and freezer jam. Doesn't it make you want to grab an apron and wooden spoon and just jump in?
Make a pot of coffee, put some "tuneskies" (music) on and go to it!
Hope your enjoying these days in your kitchen too, and putting the oven worthy weather to good use!

  1. Leah says: Yum, it all looks and sounds delicious! Would you like company one day next week to share some of your treats with? The boys and I would love to see you all and have a playdate with Ava-Grace and Jackson!
